Biography

The Moon Is No More is a concept, a theory, and a state of mind. It is the creative convergence of two brothers, one with a penchant for words, the other for music. It is the intentionally over-ambitious setting to music of the humorously sad novella, "Sans Hands."

Older brother Joshua Provost developed a musical outlet in the Arizona desert, a reaction to vapid mall culture. Younger brother Jeremy Povost honed his trademark writing style in Boston; no holds barred honesty in the form of short stories intended for no one but himself.

Together they transform literature into an indie-rock-opera. A twisted take on twisted humanity: parents and children, husbands and wives, divorce, disillusion, and the end of it all, therapy. From mangled pop melodies to contemplative acoustic transcendence, it is a sonic world of disappointment and denial.

The Moon Is No More will release their debut album, Jeffrey L. Allen, in June 2005 on Phoenix independent label 727 Records.

  • Founded in Natick, Massachusetts in 2001, the band is now a bi-coastal recording project

Reviews

“And neither of the band’s contributors offers a sugarcoated peak into this family’s tragedy. Instead, they seem to prolong and heighten the pain experienced by Allen and his progeny, focusing special attention on the younger victims of the divorce (after all, it’s the children who hurt the most). In the album’s grand scheme of things the band has taken the jaws-of-life and ripped apart the shell of a tortured and grievous family. Their bed of lies, addictions and ultimately regrets are showered out with a healthy dose of self-contempt, and we’re there to witness it all. It’s a tribute to the human experience, and it’s a mockery of everything that attempts to romanticize the human experience. Jeffery L. Allen isn’t an album; it’s a person you know." Brock H. Brown, Eyes Like Static, September 29, 2004
